Information flow and cognition affect each other: Evidence from digital learning

چکیده

In the context of learning systems, identifying causal relationships among information presented to user, their behavior and cognitive effort required/exerted understand perform a task is key building effective experiences, maintain engagement in processes. An unexplored question whether our interaction with affects (and behaviour), or vice-versa. We investigate relationship between behaviour) two separate studies (N = 40, N 98), study effect instruction (active/passive task). utilize screen-recordings eye-tracking data these variables. To different measurements, we use Granger’s causality. Further, propose new method combine time-series from multiple participants for detecting relationships. Our results indicate that presentation drives user focus size (behaviour), load (a measure exerted) presentation. This also moderated by type performance-level (high/low). draw implications design educational material technologies.

Learning through Playing for or against Each Other? Promoting Collaborative Learning in Digital Game Based Learning

The process of learning through Game Based Learning (GBL) presents both positive aspects and challenges to be faced in order to support the achievement of learning goals and knowledge creation. This study aims to characterise game dynamics in the adoption of multi-player GBL. In particular, we examine the multi-player GBL dynamics may enhance collaborative learning through a relation of positiv...

Do Causes Crowd Each Other Out? Evidence From Tornado Strikes

Does charitable giving respond to new demands, and if so, does the response come at the expense of other charitable causes? To answer these questions we exploit exogenous variation in need arising from the random event of a nearby tornado. We use location fixed effects estimators and examine changes in charitable donations claimed for tax deductions in IRS data on individual income taxes by geo...

Constipation and LUTS - how do they affect each other?

CONTEXT Urinary bladder and rectum share a common embryological origin. Their autonomic and somatic innervations have close similarities. Moreover, the close proximity of these two organ systems could suggest that dysfunction in one may influence, also mechanically, the function of the other. Therefore, it is not surprising that defecation problems and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) occur ...
